Vowel Team Worksheets

These free, printable Vowel Team worksheets will give your students practice with long vowel words containing vowel teams.

This is another free resource for teachers and homeschool families from www.freewordwork.com.

Grab these free, printable vowel team worksheets to your phonics resources for you classroom. These pages include pictures to help students match words with meaning.

If you are looking to help your own child and new to phonics instruction, this is a good place to start. For those just beginning, vowel teams are pairs of vowels that work together. For these pages, I am focusing on vowel teams that make a long vowel sound.

These pages will offer more of a challenge than the previous worksheets you have found on www.freewordwork.com.

Practice with Vowel Team Words

Looking for a way to practice these vowel team words before using paper and pencil? Encourage your children to go on a word hunt around the room. During a class meeting, work to make a list of all of the vowel team words or objects you can find around the classroom.

This can also be done at home! During your next Zoom meeting, do a Zoom Around the Room game where you ask each child to find an object that is a vowel team word.

Because some of these words require students to memorize the teams in word – such an knowing when to use an ee and when to use an ea, you could add labels to the room. Around your classroom or around your home, write words on cards and label objects. For example, you could write “fruit” where you normally keep your fruit. You could label a bookshelf with the word “read”.

About These Vowel Team Worksheets

This set contains 26 pages where students will work with vowel team words. Students will complete words and color pictures while identifying vowel teams.

These pages might fit into your first grade, second grade or even third grade word work practice.

It is always important to make sure the work you are providing for your students is meaningful, appropriate practice. You want to make your students think without providing frustration.

When creating these pages, my goal was to provide you with pages that will engage students. Many of the pages include mazes or other small activities to add a little fun for children.

The engagement piece can be especially helpful during a time of distance learning! Parents will appreciate the little extra these pages provide.
