Why should I have my children practice coloring?

These coloring pages aren’t just for fun! There are other benefits to coloring beyond play (which is an important one as well!)

Here are some of the benefits experts will cite when talking about how coloring is beneficial for children:

  1. Fine Motor Practice Practicing coloring will help children strengthen the muscles in their hands. Provide even more practice by giving students different coloring materials. They might rotate between chunky crayons, regular crayons, triangular crayons, colored pencils and markers.
  2. Hand-Eye Coordination This is another skill children will practice while coloring. This skill helps children track the movement of our hands with our eyes.
  3. Improves Handwriting Working on the two skills noted above helps with this one! Along with the practice on the two above skills, it also allows children to work on a correct grasp.
  4. Relaxation Not only do many children find coloring fun, it can also be a relaxing activity for some. Be sure to give your children freedom in their coloring. Maybe coloring with what we see as scribbles is a way for a child to get out their frustrations out.

About these free spring coloring pages for children

Once you download this PDF, you can choose the pages that fit your children. Or, provide many options so your students can choose.

Provide students with a range of coloring materials. They can have crayons, colored pencils and markers.

Maybe some students would like to have pages printed on cardstock. They can then paint with water colors.

Others might tear up tissue paper pieces and glue them on.

For those children who prefer a blank canvas, provide plain white paper so they can make their own drawings to color.
