About these pages

These pages are designed to be printed front to back. Each will have a front with a spot for a name.

I used these on the first day of school. They were a good option for students to have while we were organizing our supplies. Students who finished quickly, had something they enjoyed doing.

The facts and other items led to some discussions among students.

Some students commented about not knowing cursive and were willing to give it a try.

In the end, I learned much more about my students from these simple pages than I anticipated.

Some interesting facts

I included answers on the final slide so you can check the scrambled words and quiz questions.

The scrambled words include the following: ocean, species, habitat, cartilage, marine, predator, carnivore, adaptation.

One student was sure that some of the information was incorrect, so we spent a little time researching to make sure!

A shark is actually a type of fish! One student asked about the wording for the multiple choice answers. We looked it up together and confirmed this is correct.

A megalodon is the largest shark species known. One student believed that is was not considered a shark species because it came before sharks. We looked this is up and confirmed that it is a shark species.

The cookiecutter shark might result in some students wanting to do a little research of their own. They can look to find pictures of the shark and of the scar the bites leave. They are small but can leave lasting damage when they bite larger prey!

Students will also be able to look at the word parts for bioluminescent. If they want to learn more about this word, have them look up Waitomo Cave in New Zealand with glow worms!
