Reading Mazes: CVCe Paths

These reading mazes: CVCe paths are designed to give your students practice with magic e words.

This is another free resource for teachers and homeschool families from www.freewordwork.com.

These reading mazes: CVCe paths will be a fun addition to your word work and phonics resources for practicing magic e words.

I am getting more and more requests for maze related activities. As a result, I created these sound mazes that are perfect for practicing a phonics skill while having a little fun.

Children think of mazes as a type of game so adding a maze to your word work can make it seem like more fun than work!

This specific set of phonics mazes focuses on CVCe words.

What are CVCe words?

Unsure of what CVCe words are? Start here!

CVCe words have four letters. They begin with a consonant, have a vowel and another consonant and then they end with an e. The “magic e” at the end makes the first vowel say its name.

These are good words to work on after CVC or short vowel words. Like CVC words, CVCe words have many words with pictures to accompany the word. This can be good for students needing to match meaning with the letters in order to begin reading words.

About these Reading Mazes: CVCe Paths

There are a total of 10 pages for students to use when practicing their phonics skills. The mazes are provided in two formats.

The first set contains words. You will find a page focusing on each vowel sound. The sixth and seventh in this format contains a mixture of magic e words.

The next three pages are made using pictures.

To complete the task, students will start at the kite picture and color the first square. Children will then find the path by coloring the CVCe words. Their goal is to reach the cake at the end of the maze.

Students simply need a crayon, colored pencil or marker to play.
