Children think of mazes as a type of game so adding a maze to your word work can make it seem like more fun than work!

This specific set of phonics mazes focuses on beginning digraph words.

What are Digraphs?

Unsure of what digraphs are? Start here! (If you already know, skip to the end for your free download.)

If you do not know, beginning digraph words start with two letters that make a new sound. The words in these pages start with ch, sh, kn, ph, th, wh or wr.

These are good words to work on after CVC or short vowel words. Like CVC words, CVCe words have many words with pictures to accompany the word. This can be good for students needing to match meaning with the letters in order to begin reading words.

About these Reading Mazes: Beginning Digraph Paths

There are a total of 7 pages for students to use when practicing their phonics skills.

Along with the directions identifying the digraph each page focuses on, you will also find a picture clue that begins with the blend.

To complete the task, students will start at the top picture and color the first square. Children will then find the path by coloring the noted digraph words. Their goal is to reach the picture at the end of the maze.

Students simply need a crayon, colored pencil or marker to play.
