Long E Vowel Team Words
The words on these pages all contain a long e vowel sound.
The letter combinations making the long E sound are ea, ee, ie, y and ey.
Examples of words found in this set include tea, sweep, shield, happy and monkey.
Practice with Words Containing Long E Sound
These words with the long E sound can offer a challenge because the same sound is made by many different letter combinations. It will take a lot of practice for students to master the spellings of these words.
To help students get started, make an anchor chart for practicing words with the different letter combinations.
Write ea, ee, ie, y and ey at the top.
Have students name words with the long e sound as you record them in the correct column.
Be sure to point out that the letter y can make many different sounds and in this case we are looking for the long e sound. For example, the y sounds like an e in grumpy but an i in cry. In yellow it makes a different sound.

Children will be ready for these pages after mastering short vowel words, magic e words and words with digraphs and blends.
I love creating pages that will engage children. I work to include different formats that will add a little fun to phonics practice that can sometimes get boring for children. For this reason, pages include mazes or other small activities to add a little fun for children.
I hope that the variety of worksheet layouts will help you find a way that is most engaging for each child.
