If you are looking to help your own child and new to phonics instruction, this is a good place to start.
Consonant digraphs are two letters that work together to form a single sound. These are sometimes referred to as consonant phonemes. Often the letters combine to make a new sound. For example, c and h make a completely new sound not found in the English alphabet.
For these pages, I focused on words with ending consonant digraphs.
There are also two sets of ending trigraphs which contain three letters. You will find words with the letters dge and tch.
Practice with Ending Digraph Words
Looking for a way to practice these consonant digraph words before using paper and pencil?
Maybe pull out the Play-Doh and have students form the letters of a specific digraph or tigraph using clay. Once the letters have been formed, make a list of words that start with the digraph.
This is something parents can do at home as well. Simply talking about the words can be a good introduction for kids.
You could also work to make an anchor chart. The anchor chart you create could contain the digraphs and trigraphs along with a list of words or pictures for each.
As a challenge, you might review beginning and ending digraphs with your students at the same time.
