Ending Digraph Flashcards

Try these ending digraph flashcards as a tool to help your children master ending digraph sounds.

This is another free resource for teachers and homeschool families from www.freewordwork.com.

These ending digraph flashcards are designed to be another tool available for your phonics instruction.

If you are looking for additional phonics resources to help your children master sounds, these can be added to your classroom or home tools.

What are digraphs?

Unsure of what digraphs are? Start here! (If you already know, skip to the end for your free download.)

If you do not know, beginning digraph words start with two letters that make a new sound. These flashcards focus on ending digraphs or digraphs (and two sets of trigraphs) that come at the end of words.

The digraphs (and trigraphs) included are ch, ck, dge, ng, sh, tch and th.

You will find these ending digraph flashcards in four formats.

The download includes:

  • each digraph on a card
  • a picture for each digraph on a card
  • a digraph next to a picture on a card
  • a word containing the digraph on a card

Some ideas for using these cards include:

Begin with the cards containing the digraph and picture on one card. Continue by saying the name of the picture and then saying the digraph sound.

Have your child name the picture on the card. They can then identify the digraph they hear at the beginning. You might then have your child write the letters on a whiteboard so that they are matching the letters with the sound.

Once your child has mastered this task, they can try reading the digraph without the picture clues. You might ask them to make a list of words they know beginning with the digraphs.

These cards can also be used as a matching activity. Have your child match the digraph letters with the picture. Extend the activity by playing a go fish style game or a memory game with these cards.
