Why are mazes good for children?
Have you been searching for learning materials but your kids are requesting materials that are more game like?
Don’t worry! Printables such as these maze pages I have created have many benefits for children.
- They provide fine motor practice. Students will be practicing pencil grip. They will also have to work on control by staying within the lines.
- Children must also use a skill important to reading – scanning of the page. Children will be looking back and forth to find the correct path. Scanning from left to right occurs during reading so offering maze practice will help strengthen this skill.
- Problem solving is another skill used when solving mazes. Children will encounter bumps in the path and must back track to find the correct way through. Students might attempt new strategies such as working backwards or pointing with a finger before drawing. There might be lots of trial and error as children find the best way to solve each maze.
- Engagement with an activity is another key benefit. Children often find mazes to be fun so they learn to work through the challenge. In the end, this helps them learn that working through a challenge can be rewarding.
