Consonant digraphs are two letters that work together to form a single sound. These are sometimes referred to as consonant phonemes. Often the letters combine to make a new sound. For example, c and h make a completely new sound not found in the English alphabet.

For these pages, I focused on words with beginning consonant digraphs.

Practice with Consonant Digraph Words

Looking for a way to practice these consonant digraph words before using paper and pencil?

Maybe pull out the Play-Doh and have students form the letters of a specific digraph using clay. Once the letters have been formed, make a list of words that start with the digraph.

This is something parents can do at home as well. Simply talking about the words can be a good introduction for kids.

About These Consonant Digraph Worksheets

This set contains 25 printable pages where students will work with words beginning with consonant digraphs. Students will complete words and color pictures while identifying the missing blends.

These pages might fit into your kindergarten, first grade or second grade word work practice.

You will find a range of Consonant Digraph Worksheets for phonics practice. These pages contain the digraphs ch, kn, ph, sc, sh, sk, th, tw, wh and wr.

These pages might offer a challenge to students just beginning to read. If your students are not yet ready for consonant digraphs, begin with short vowel sounds or single letter beginning sounds.

When creating these pages, my goal was to provide you with pages that will engage students. Many of the pages include mazes or other small activities to add a little fun for children.

The engagement piece can be especially helpful during a time of distance learning! Parents will appreciate the little extra these pages provide.

  1. Thank you for all of these amazing resources. They are going to be perfect for Word Work centres.
I did notice on the beginning digraph “tw” there is ‘throne’ written under the image for ’12’. Could that be fixed?
    Thanks so much,
    Jana

  2. Corrections needed.

I love you stuff and so do the kids.
Here are the errors that have been noted in this package.

1.Starting on page 13-20, they all say search for “ch”
And should indicate the digraph indicated.

    2. Page 18, there is a picture of 12 but it says ‘throne’

    3. Page 20, the “wr” there are no boxes with those letters.

Please let me know when this has been addressed

    Thanks again
